THE STORY
Glenn and Jeanette Ferrell
For the last twenty or so years Jeanette and I along with our three kids, Isaac, Arielle and Levi have grown relationships with our Honduran family. The sweat, laughter and tears born there have rooted in our hearts. This experience has been formational in our entire family’s perception of servanthood and resulted in answering His call in Costa Rica, Haiti, Uganda, Ghana, India, Madagascar, Myanmar, Thailand and more. But Honduras has always held a special place of love in our hearts. This love has continued and poured over into our growing family as our kids have married and have children of their own. We have had the opportunity to spread that love even further as others accompany us there. What’s up with the name Burro Bueno?
Story of the Burro (donkey)
Several years ago, two men, Charlie Smith and Miguel Pinell responded to God's call to serve the poorest of the poor in Honduras. They began praying for a 4x4 to help bring rice and beans up into remote mountain villages there. God saw fit to bless them with a 4x4 but not one that takes diesel, one that ate hay; a burro. Perhaps as the ministry there was just beginning, God was trying to make Charlie and Miguel that much more relatable with the people they were serving. So that burro carried bags of rice and beans on its back in the foundational days of the ministry there.
In subsequent years as the ministry became more established and trusted in those remote areas, God saw fit to bless them with more. However, the burro continued to be a touchpoint in the ministry. The burro that carried Jesus on its back is a stark contrast to the proud stallions that carried the Roman soldiers. That picture serves as a reminder that no matter who we are, what we look like, what our perceived status is, we all should be humble carriers of Christ to those around us. Just as the burro is a humble hardworking servant so we should be, as we carry Christ to those around us every day.
Our call to be humble servants, starting something fresh in those same mountains in Honduras is clear. As we strive to be tangible expressions of God’s Grace and Love, we hope you will join us there and experience for yourself, what so many people have come to recognize as life changing.
TBA has been serving in Honduras for years and prior as Epic for over 20 years. We are invested to say the least. Several years ago, our missions leader, Glenn Ferrell, began feeling a call to something new in Canchias. The area was in decline but there was still a sense of anointing and prayers that had consecrated that place from the past....it was as if the land was crying out to the living God, the sacrifice and many prayers that took place there, were still crying out that there was more, more, to be done...more lives to save, more for the gospel to achieve in this place. We could all feel it...especially Glenn. You see over the years and the many trips...there was always the talk from Glenn, like,....”man, wouldn’t it be cool if”....”could you imagine if”....”what if we could do something here in Canchias?”...but those “what if” sentences where never really finished, because that’s how Holy Spirit often stirs His people...a nudge, a potential, a calling not fully realized by the individual that God is stirring things up in. It was like He was saying, something’s coming…keep listening.
