SOUNDING HORNS AND FIGHTING KRAKENS

Honduras is experiencing a particularly dry, hot summer. As a matter of fact, our flight in last week was delayed due to limited visibility from all of the smoke in the air as farmers are burning their fields preparing for a new crop.
A few months ago, we were able to partner with a dear friend and help have a well hand-dug and bricked in. This picture makes me chuckle because Leo is descending into the abyss with a look on his face that says he is ready to meet a Kraken down there. We had to recover a check valve that had come off and sunk to the bottom. The fact is, on a 99-degree day, on day number four that the municipal water was turned off, lowering into 75-degree water was a very good thing. But there was still an element of apprehension going under the cool, five-foot deep water and feeling around in the dark for the missing part.
Sometimes the greatest things, the things we have prayed for, the things that will reap so much reward, come with an element of uncertainty. With a requirement of faith.
In the next few weeks, we will be embarking on this exciting, unsettling, wonderful, improbable course that we have been called to.
I am reminded of Moses saying to God, You've been telling me to lead these people into the promised land, but you haven't told me who you are sending with me. God responded, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Moses, apparently still uneasy, responds in essence, Okay I hear you but if your Presence doesn't go with us then don't send us. Otherwise, how will people know we are different? Nehemiah was called by God to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem and still he approached the king with fear and uncertainty.
Last week, many of the obstacles in our way started falling away. I want to shout my gratitude and sound the horns! I know God goes before us and yet there is a fair amount of trepidation mixed into those celebratory fist pumps.
Now the work, the fundraising, the hurdling begins. I know there might be a Sanballat or a Kraken waiting but I trust that God's Presence goes before us and will give us rest.
Please let me know if you would like to help with the work, the funding ...or the Krakens. See you in Honduras!
